Convenience and accuracy in weather analysis have never been this easy with the development of technology. Before buying your own station, check our AcuRite 01036M review.
On a normal day, every one of us checks the weather conditions at least once a day. Your application or Google result may be inaccurate due to the station that collects data being too far from you.
Apart from that, the following weather on a daily basis is a great hobby. I have been a weather enthusiast for a long time and this makes my spare time more useful. As a weather hobbyist, you can learn a big range of terminology and information. In addition to this, you can keep the historical data so, keeping track of the climate information is very convenient.
If you want to take up a hobby, buying a weather station is always a good choice.
Components of Weather Stations
All right, you decided to buy a weather station but you do not know which components are used for what purpose. Thus, before we begin our review, it is better to learn some of the terminologies.
In a typical weather station, there are different means of measurements on its sensor. For example, there is a thermometer, hygrometer, anemometer, rain gauge, barometer, wind sock, and wind vane. Thermometers and hygrometers are usually assembled together and they are used for measuring temperature and humidity, respectively.
Then, anemometers are there for learning the wind speed. Rain gauges are for calculating the precipitation levels while barometers are used for atmospheric pressure. Lastly, wind sock and wind vane measure the general wind speed and direction.
These are the standard components. Then, let’s get to our AcuRite 01036M Review
AcuRite is a Wisconsin-based company that has been producing weather products for a long time.
The engineers in AcuRite focus on designing durable products with ease of use. The 01036M model is a beginner tool.
So, even if you are not interested in weather hobby, you can buy it to see what outfit you should be wearing. It primarily has two major components. The first part is an outdoor sensor and a display unit.
The AcuRite 01036M mainly occupies 5 major features. It naturally shows the outdoor and indoor temperatures and humidity levels. Secondly, it keeps the rainfall history and shows the momentary rainfall.
As it measures the atmospheric pressure, it helps you forecast what the weather is going to be. In addition to the barometric pressure, it calculates the wind speed and wind direction. It has “Weather Ticker” which streams the “feels like” temperature and moon phase.
Apart from these five main features, you can also connect the device to your PC or phone so that you can log the data in a document.
Are there different features that I would have liked? Sure. For example, other weather stations that are pricier have a solar radiation sensor or UV sensor. However, this is not a big deal taking its affordable price into consideration.
- All the features that they promise work perfectly. That is what I expect from a quality brand.
- The connection to the other devices is a big advantage.
- I would have liked more features such as solar radiation or UV.
The user interface of the display unit is so handy. It shows all the said features on one page so, you can see all at once. The colored display attracts kids to use the display unit that help them learn weather terminology. It made my kids interested in the weather.
Thanks to its very bright backlight, you can see the screen in blinding or reflected sunlight. The only setback is seeing the screen from different angles is hard.
It is one of the easiest devices I have ever seen when it comes to weather stations. We usually have problems with connecting the outdoor sensors and display units. However, that is not even an issue here. You mount your sensor array outside and turn on your display unit. Then, they will connect with each other in seconds.
If there is no connection, you should check the two devices’ channels. Since there are three channels that AcuRite 01036M employs, they can have different ones set. The battery compartments of both devices mark which channel it is on.
Connecting your device to your PC opens up a new world. You will have very detailed graphics on your “My AcuRite” account online. The connection is also easy. All you need to do is just plugging the base station into your computer with the USB cord and download their own software from the AcuRite website.
Once you connect your device, it will start sharing your data online. So, let’s say you can even check your data when you are away from home.
One bad thing is that it lacks a Wi-Fi connection that many other weather stations have.
- There are extremely detailed charts and graphics online.
- Easy connection reinforces the AcuRite 01036M’s claim to simplicity.
- No Wi-Fi connection is a disappointment in this time and age.
Indoor Temperature and Humidity
Having knowledge about the humidity and temperature at your home is crucial. If you are living in a very humid region, you might have experienced a few times in your life that the ceiling gets moldy. With a personal weather station, you will have access to the humidity level information in your house and take timely measures against it.
Likewise, if you are living in a cold region, knowing exactly what the temperature is in your environment is vital. My friends in Minneapolis thanked me for recommending the AcuRite 01036M as they could take well-timed precautions last winter before their pipes outside froze out.
The AcuRite 01036M’s package brings two major components. The outdoor sensor array has a rain collector, an anemometer, wind vane, solar panel, and a battery department. Even though there is a solar panel on the sensor array, the main power source is batteries. The whole product runs on 10 batteries and they are not included in the pack.
It takes the wind direction and shows it as 16 points, not like 360 degrees. Compared to professional weather stations that show direction as 360 degrees, 16 points display is not the most desirable one. However, it is good as long as they keep the price at affordable levels.
To sum things up, AcuRite’s 01036M model outpaced my expectations. Yes, it has some soft spots just like every other product but with all things considered, there are obvious reasons why this product became so popular in the weather stations market.
Moreover, it is safe to say that the 01036M is a popular choice on Amazon. It has an average of 4.1 stars out of 5. It is on the top 20 best-selling ones on the list of weather stations.
Finally, you should know that if you are looking for a product for professional use, this may not be your taste. However, if you are not looking for something that does wonders and simply showing what it is supposed to do, we definitely recommend it.
